ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS READING GROUP

Fall Term, Weekly Wednesdays, 6:00-7:15PM,
Begins September 13, 5 sessions
Harvard Catholic Center/St. Paul’s, Cambridge, MA

Some deem St. John of the Cross the most significant poet of the Spanish language, but how often do Catholics read his works for anything more than his spiritual doctrine? Although important, Fray John's spiritual teachings only form one aspect of his work. This reading group focuses on appreciating and understanding St. John's poetical works, in translation, from an integrative literary, artistic, and theological perspective. Other writers, such as St. Theresa of Ávila, may also be considered in conversation with St. John. Bi-lingual discussions are welcome for those who are interested, but a knowledge of Spanish is not necessary to join.

Reading materials will be provided to registered participants or are available online. A casual dinner will be served.

Group led by HCF Graduate Fellow Jordan Vanderpool.
