Explore and discuss an outstanding selection from Chekhov’s stories, which shine a penetrating light on human motivations through a highly distinctive laconic style. Each of the first five sessions of this reading group is devoted to a single short story, expected to be The Lady with the Toy Dog, The Kiss, The Shoemaker and the Devil, The Horse-Stealers, and The Bet. The final session will consider selections from Chekhov’s celebrated play The Cherry Orchard.
Readings distributed to registrants in advance. Light dinner provided.
